1. You only send a letter of intent to your #1 ranking. 2. Dr. Bryan Carmody (Sheriff of Sodium) has a great Youtube on this topic. He's a pediatric nephrologist and either a PD or APD. It's called: **Mailbag: Letters of Intent and Post-Interview Communication** 3. ▶ link 4. They have a small impact for some PDs. 5. Some PDs/programs request "no post-interview communication" so if they do abide by that.

Bryan Carmody addresses this in this video. Bottom line: don’t do it. Not worth it. ▶ link

It's explained better in this video ▶ link but some programs (probably not top programs) value LOI because they are metric driven and if they match lower on their rank list they look better to management

…communication (we aren't privvy to everything you know). No effect: You send the LOI and they don't read or they read and have decided to not let LOIs affect their ROL because the ROL is set. Best case: They read your letter and move you up their ROL. If you send a LOI, remember: only 1 LOI to your #1. Bryan Carmody (Sheriff of Sodium) has a good YouTube video on this. He's a physician at EVMS (Norfolk, VA). ▶ link
