I hear what you're saying but that's so silly to me because you have to be strategic about giving out gold signals—why waste a gold signal on a program you already have demonstrated strong ties to? Signaling should be about maximizing your chances for IV in a sea of applicants. At least that's ▶ Sheriff of Sodium's advice.

You've probably already seen the ▶ sherrif of sodium video but I think i agree that the threshold is around 10-15 for it to start acting as a soft cap. I think 10 is at the level where you can still get somewhat reasonable interview yield from safety programs especially within your geo signals, but less need for like 80-100 apps like with only 5 signals

Sheriff of Sodium has a good guide on signaling - ▶ guide on signaling In the video he points out that if your signals aren’t aligned with your geo preferences you have worse odds at converting them to interviews I think, although since you’re couples matching perhaps it’s different

▶ link This sheriff of sodium video is worth a watch. I don't know that my intended signal strategy is really going to help since I'm dealing with 8 signals in a single tier vs anesthesia's 5/10 tiered system, but right now the only things I've set are that I'm signaling the state school from where I did undergrad, the state school where my family moved to after I graduated, and that I'm capping at 2 outside of geogr…

I highly recommend this ▶ Sheriff of Sodium signaling video.. I just found his channel a few weeks ago, but I found it to be thought provoking. It’s primarily using data from the 2023 match cycle, so there will undoubtedly be some differences this year. That said, I found his advice to still generally be true. Applied anesthesia (we got 5 gold and 10 silver signals). I got interviews with 5/5 of my gold signals, a fe…
