Lung volume and static compliance is a function of the transpulmonary/transumral pressure (Pa-Pip). Since the glottis is closed and no air is allowed to enter there is no change in lung volume. Therefore the Pa must decrease proportionally with the drop in Pip in order to maintain a consistent transpulmonary pressure and lung volume. I hope this make sense.
